Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has urged striker Wayne Rooney to start a family with fiancee Coleen McLoughlin to ensure their marriage remains a happy one. "Having a family helps," he said. "It gives you something to work together for." The canny Scot added: "They have to remember, it's a marathon, not a sprint." (The Sun)

Former England manger Sir Bobby Robson has been given the freedom of Ipswich. The 75-year-old has been recognised for leading Ipswich Town between 1969 and 1982, when he guided them to glory in the FA Cup in 1978 and the Uefa Cup in 1981. (The Sun)

A father and son scored 60 goals between them this season as strike partners for their team, Nimbin United. Doug Rowe, 34, and 17-year-old Doug Jnr. shot the club to a league and cup double in Southampton.
